» Poem: i don't like attention
i don't like attention
written by trulybroken57

attention,
i may seem like i want it,
but all i want is
to be seen for who i am.
i don't want everyone
to look at me or to be the
focus of everything.
that's not really me,
i can pretend that it is,
but i can only pretend for so long.
if you took away
all of the smiles
that you can see on my surface,
what would be left?
and would you even like it?
because deep down i am
dark and lonely,
lost and afraid.
some days i am so lost
that i fearfully become my mask,
and it takes awhile
for me to find myself again.
attention,
it takes away from
the me that you don't know.
i hate it,
but i have learned to live like this.
and maybe someday i can show you
who i really am
