» Poem: Heart-Aching Truth
Heart-Aching Truth

When I first saw you, walking in the school halls, I thought you were one of those kids who thought they were better than others. Until you came up to me and said "Hey."
I thought you were bored, and your friends weren't around to talk to. But I was wrong the next day, when you sat next to me at lunch.
I continued to eat my sandwich, wondering if you were just there to sit, or to pick on me like everyone else. But all you said was "Hey", and walked over to sit with your friends. Then I thought you were tyoing with me, because you knew I thought you were cute, and I had a crush on you. But those thoughts changed the next day, when you greeted me at the bike racks before school started.
I thought it was a dream when you asked me to be your girlfriend. Then I thought it was a joke, and looked around for your other friends, but none were in sight, so I agreed.

For once I was happy, knowing that someone cared about my feelings. The happiness lasted for days, then weeks, then months, until I started seeing a change in the way you acted towards me. I didn't think anything of it, but I should have when you started to pick on me, saying that you were only playing, and you wanted your friends to think that we were no longer dating. So I went along with it, hoping it would end soon, and wondering why your friends' thoughts of me mattered to you. That's when I saw the heart-aching truth.

At the Valentine's Day dance, I saw you making out with another girl. I don't know how I could have been so blinded as to not see the truth, but I went home, earlier than expected, but surely, crying of the heart-aching truth.

The next school day, you saw me standing next to my classroom. You slowly walked past me, telling me that it was over. I wasn't as hurt as I was when I found out the truth, yet for some reason, I smiled.
I guess it's because his new girlfriend will experience the same exact pain that I did. If not the next week, then she will soon. And then it will come back around and shatter his heart, like he shattered mine.
